News from the construction site – the December update

As the year comes to a close, work on all subprojects at the Energiepark Bad Lauchstädt is proceeding according to plan. The focus is currently on carefully preparing for the next steps in the commissioning process.

Advances in Gas Processing

Construction work on the hydrogen gas processing facility continues to progress. The so-called “cold commissioning”—during which the plant is tested without hydrogen—is scheduled for April 2026. This allows sufficient time to carefully prepare all systems and approach the next steps in a structured manner.

Work on the VNG gas storage facilities has been completed

An important milestone has been reached in the work being carried out by VNG Gasspeicher GmbH: Surface and road construction work had already begun in October and has now been successfully completed. The utility connection to Elektrolyse Mitteldeutschland GmbH (EMG) has also been established, thereby laying an important foundation for future operations.

Construction and Installation of the Electrolysis Plant

Construction and assembly work at the electrolysis plant continues uninterrupted. The individual components are being installed and prepared step by step to ensure the plant is fully operational in the coming months. The focus is currently on completing the actual production units—the modules. Work is currently underway to finalize the installation of all blocks of the second module.

Move to the administrative building

Alongside these technical advances, the project team moved into the new administrative building at the site at the end of the year.

In the future, the building will also house the visitor center. This will make the Energiepark Bad Lauchstädt a permanent destination for interested visitor groups.

Voting on the launch has begun

The project is also moving forward with regard to the connection to the Leuna refinery. The physical grid connection point on the refinery side has yet to be determined, but ONTRAS and TotalEnergies have already begun coordinating the joint commissioning processes. This early coordination is crucial to ensuring a smooth integration of the individual facilities next year.

With these advances, the Energiepark Bad Lauchstädt is wrapping up 2025 having achieved key milestones.
