At the Energiepark Bad Lauchstädt site, commissioning is approaching rapidly: The final construction and technical work is underway, so that the electrolysis hall and the connection to the TotalEnergies refinery are gradually taking their final form.
Preparations for the second module of the electrolysis plant are underway
The first module with a capacity of 10 megawatts (MW) has already been installed in the electrolysis hall, along with gas separators. The second module will follow in about two weeks – preparations for this are already underway. In total, the electrolysis hall will eventually comprise three modules with a total capacity of 30 MW.
Final work on the site
At the same time, the construction site facilities are being gradually dismantled – an indication that the major construction activities have been completed. The project team is now moving into the new administration building directly next to the plant hall. Work is also progressing around the metering and control station: VNG Gasspeicher GmbH (VGS) is currently carrying out road and surface work to restore the site.
Fine-tuning work on the gas processing plant
At consortium partner DBI – Gas Technology Institute gGmbH Freiberg, the final installations on the hydrogen gas processing plant are being implemented. The control cabinets required for the electrical control of the plant have now also been delivered. Cable pulling and pipeline construction are proceeding on schedule, with completion of the work imminent.
Final meters to the refinery
The connection to the TotalEnergies Leuna refinery is also nearing completion. Only a few meters of pipeline on the refinery side remain to be laid before the physical connection between the Energiepark and the off-take facility is fully established.
With this progress, the starting point for transporting Green Hydrogen from the Energiepark Bad Lauchstädt to the refinery in Leuna is getting ever closer. Very soon, a crucial step for the energy transition will become reality.
