Updating the National Hydrogen Strategy is an important step for Germany’s energy future

  • The Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park welcomes the German government’s strategy
  • Focus on market ramp-up of hydrogen and development of hydrogen infrastructure as a key element of the energy transition
  • The Energy Park is already an important example for Germany as a leading provider of hydrogen technologies

The companies at Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park welcome the update of the National Hydrogen Strategy. Professor Hartmut Krause, deputy project manager in the Bad Lauchstädt energy park consortium and managing director of DBI Gastechnologische Institut gGmbH Freiberg and Chair of Gas and Heat Technology at TU Bergakademie Freiberg:

“As a real-world laboratory for the energy transition, we are already making an important contribution to the implementation of the German government’s National Hydrogen Strategy. However, this also makes it particularly clear to us how great the challenges are on the way to establishing a hydrogen economy in Germany. We therefore welcome that the willingness of companies and business associations such as ours to invest is to be further supported by suitable funding programmes in order to encourage the construction of further green electricity generators and electrolysers for the domestic production of green hydrogen, as well as to drive forward the conversion and expansion of the transport and storage infrastructure.

Consistent action is now needed for the further implementation of this National Hydrogen Strategy – starting with a reliable legal framework for investments in a climate-neutral future. This will enable us to successfully test the entire value chain of green hydrogen at the Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park and hopefully make it the 1st energy park in Germany to model best practice at European level.”
